Manchester City's current and future manager remain on course to meet in the Champions League and cause a match fraught with a major conflict of interest.

Pep Guardiola, the next Manchester City manager, navigated his way to the next phase of the tournament despite a scare from Juventus that meant his Bayern Munich side had to come from two goals behind to win.

Manchester City progressed to the last-eight last night by maintaining their 3-1 first-leg advantage of Dynamo Kiev.

Uefa officials might have been hoping to have seen one of Guardiola or Pellegrini exit the competition, thus avoiding an awkward conflict of interests should Bayern Munich be drawn together with Manchester City.

The result means Guardiola's three-year reign at the Allianz Arena could yet end with European glory, with the Spaniard thus far unable to conquer the competition he won twice with Barcelona.

The draw for the quarter-finals takes place on Friday.
