Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has admitted Mohamed Elneny will have to adapt to the physical nature of the Premier League, despite impressing on debut in the holders’ 2-1 victory over Burnley on Saturday.

The 23-year-old joined from Basle last month and made his first appearance as the Gunners, through Calum Chambers and the returning Alexis Sanchez, stretched their unbeaten FA Cup run to three years against a stubborn Clarets outfit.

“He started a bit cautious and played a bit secure,” Wenger said. “But he became more adventurous, had some good shots and his mobility and workrate was exceptional. He needs to adjust to the power of the game in the Premier League, but this was a good welcome and certainly he has learned a lot. It will take him some time to adjust to the power side of our game but his intelligence, mobility and the technical level are good.”

In contrast, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has called on his side to adapt to meet the skillset of their new signing, Juan Iturbe. The loan arrival from Roma made his first start for the Cherries as they came from behind to win 2-1 at League Two Portsmouth.

“Juan’s talent is not in doubt, he’s an outstanding player,” Howe said of the 22-year-old Argentine. “We need to get to know him better, and by that I mean the players need to give him the ball at the right time in the right areas. There’s an adjustment from our perspective to get the best out of him.”

Emmanuel Adebayor is set for his Crystal Palace debut against Bournemouth at

Selhurst Park tomorrow after missing Saturday’s 1-0 win over Stoke because of a lack of fitness. Another Eagles

forward, Dwight Gayle, is close to a move away from the club, with Leicester and Swansea interested.

“Dwight got four goals in our pre-game [training match] we have on a Friday but was injured,” Palace manager Alan Pardew said. “We’ve pencilled in [Adebayor] to be involved on Tuesday, so we’ll have to wait and see.

“We had a few players missing [on Saturday], lost a couple at half-time, but everybody really put in a performance at their level or above their level, and you can’t ask for more than that. You could see by the results, the Premier League [teams are] taking this competition a lot more seriously than before.”
