Two goalkeepers score free-kicks from inside their own half as magic of the FA Cup strikes Non-League Day
It was a day to remember for the goalkeepers of non-League sides Spennymoor Town and Dartford
The first round of FA Cup qualifying threw up a memorable goal as Spennymoor Town goalkeeper Dan Lowson scored a stunning 80-yard free-kick on Saturday.
The footage of the strike against Radcliffe Borough shows the goalkeeper launching the ball long from a free-kick inside his own area only for the bounce to catch out his opposite number and lob him to find the back of the net.
Lowson’s effort proved that the magic of the FA Cup is still alive, even at such an early stage, as Moors went on to win 5-3 to progress to the second qualifying round.
That was not the only wonder-goal by a goalkeeper this weekend though as Dartford stopper Deren Ibrahim took advantage of Non-League Day by lashing the ball in from the more modest distance of around 70 yards.
Ibrahim’s free-kick didn’t even need the bounce to beat Hungerford Town’s number one as Dartford won 2-0 in the National League South.

Former England full-back Nicky Shorey wouldn’t have been too impressed with the goal, having joined non-league Hungerford last week.
