Michael Owen is usually the one being criticised by all and sundry when he appears as co-commentator on BT Sport but tonight, as he watched his former club Liverpool comfortably beat Exeter City, he dished some of his own – and almost all of it was for Christian Benteke.

The Belgian striker endured an eventful night at Anfield, setting up two goals for his side but also missing a number of chances to extend their lead over the League Two side.

Shortly after Joe Allen put the home side in front, the £32million summer signing from Aston Villa spurned a chance to double Liverpool’s lead, heading over the bar from point blank range.

That upset the former England striker but not as much as Benteke’s movement in general, which he does not believe is good enough for manager Jurgen Klopp to build a team around.

It all reached a sorry conclusion when, in the game’s dying moment, the Belgian rounded the ‘keeper and somehow managed to concede a goal-kick.

Funnily enough, for once, the BT Sport pundit was not slaughtered on social media after giving his analysis, with a lot of Liverpool fans agreeing that the club’s No. 9 needs to show more.

Unfortunately Michael, there's just no pleasing some people.
