Arsene Wenger would not rule out a January move for Schalke wonderkid Julian Draxler.

Arsenal are known to be very keen on the German 20-year-old and Wenger, speaking after the 4-0 defeat of Coventry City in the fourth round, denied an imminent move before opening the door to it in future.

“Honestly, as I told you before, we don’t rule it out,” Wenger said tonight when asked if a move was close. “But at the moment I cannot announce anything to you.”

Wenger had just said that there would not be an imminent deal for the £35million rated attacking midfielder who is keen on a move to the Emirates. “That again is an illusion,” Wenger said. “There is nothing happening, honestly no. We have no need on the flanks, we have Chamberlain coming back, we have many players on the flanks.”

Wenger was reluctant to be drawn into another argument with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who said that he had been complaining over transfers, but did try to refute Mourinho’s suggestion that Arsenal had been offered the easier fixtures recently. “Look, you choose over Christmas the fixtures and you tell me who had the best fixtures” Wenger said. “We played on Sunday against Everton, on Wednesday in Naples and on Saturday morning at Man City, so we have not the same assessment on that front. I can accept that we have different opinions. Everybody is free in life to have their opinion.”
