Wycombe vs Aston Villa - as it happened: Joe Jacobson's strike earns Chairboys replay

Follow all the latest from Adams Park

Welcome to The Independent's live coverage of today's FA Cup third round tie between Wycombe Wanderers and Aston Villa.

Today’s lunchtime kick-off has been tipped by many as the one to watch for those who fancy a ‘cupset’. Remi Garde’s Villans sit bottom of the top flight table with a miserable 8 points, while Wycombe are riding high in League Two’s playoff places.

The Chairboys went on a famous giant-killing run fifteen years ago, all the way to the semi-finals, where they were knocked out by eventual winners Liverpool. Could they recreate some of that magic today?

Match facts

Aston Villa won 8-3 the last time these sides met, in the 2005/06 League Cup at Adams Park.

The Chairboys have only beaten a higher-ranked side in the Third Round of the FA Cup once, defeating Grimsby in a replay in 2001. That was the season of course they made the semi-final, famously defeating Leicester City along the way.

Aston Villa have won their last seven FA Cup ties against fourth-tier opposition, last losing to a side from that tier in 1972, a 1-0 defeat at Southend in a First Round game.

The Villains have progressed to the Fourth Round of the FA Cup in six of the last seven seasons.
