Back to routine business for Motormen

Vauxhall Motors will return to the mundane reality of the non-League game tomorrow, four days after the greatest day in the club's history.

The part-timers from the Wirral will entertain their UniBond League rivals Frickley Athletic at Rivacre Park in the second round of the FA Trophy, no doubt still savouring the thrilling memories of Tuesday's penalty shoot-out victory over Queen's Park Rangers in an FA Cup first-round replay at Loftus Road.

For Vauxhall Motors' manager Alvin McDonald and his players, it has been an exhausting but enjoyable few days since their heroics in west London. The captain Phil Brazier, who scored the equaliser in the 1-1 draw that led to the spot-kick triumph, and Carl Nesbitt, who converted one of the penalties in the shoot-out, have both been kept busy with a series of media interviews since they returned to work at Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port car plant on Wednesday.

McDonald, whose only previous managerial experience prior to lifting the Motormen into the top flight of the UniBond had been in the West Cheshire League and in Sunday football, admitted: "I will be struggling to bring myself back down to earth for Saturday's Trophy game, let alone the players."

Margate, who removed Leyton Orient from the FA Cup on Tuesday, have what may prove to be a harder fixture tomorrow: a league game away to the Nationwide Conference leaders, Yeovil Town.

Margate decided yesterday to stage their second-round tie against Cardiff City at their temporary home, Dover Athletic's Crabble ground, rather than switch it to Ninian Park.
