Championship round-up: Doyle pair is relief for Solbakken

Wolves ended a difficult week for manager Stale Solbakken with a 4-1 at Bristol City, Kevin Doyle scoring twice, to arrest a run of nine without a win and move away from the Championship relegation zone.

The under-fire manager has been criticised by fans and his car was vandalised on Thursday but, after the win, he said: "Maybe this will change our fortunes. The fans are entitled to be critical during poor runs. We are a big club and expectations are high. Now we can build on something positive."

Neil Warnock praised Luciano Becchio after Leeds United beat Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town 4-2. The Argentinian midfielder scored twice at the Galpharm and Warnock said: "It is amazing what he can do when he sets his mind to it. He hasn't always performed to the best of his ability but hopefully the penny has dropped and he can continue in that form."

Leicester beat Derby 4-1 to go third in the Championship and are now only two points behind second-placed Cardiff, who host Sheffield Wednesday today.

Thomas Ince scored a brace as Michael Appleton recorded his first win since becoming Blackpool manager with a 4-1 victory over Peterborough. Watford moved into the play-off places with a 4-1 win against Barnsley. Hornets manager Gianfranco Zola said: "It was a little bit of rock 'n' roll for us but I am delighted with the result."

In the FA Cup, Hastings United of the Isthmian League Premier Division will be the lowest-ranked team in today's third-round draw after a 1-1 draw with Harrogate Town. Lincoln City and Mansfield will replay as they drew 3-3 at Sincil Bank. Fellow non-League side Chelmsford City played an hour with 10 men before losing 3-0 at Crawley.

Fleetwood have sacked their manager Micky Mellon after a 2-1 FA Cup second-round defeat to Aldershot, the Cod Army's third consecutive loss in all competitions. But they currently occupy the final play-off spot in League Two in their debut season in the League. Mellon, 40, led Fleetwood to the Blue Square Premier title last season.
