Two goals from Egypt internationals Gedo and Ahmed Elmohamady helped Hull City to consolidate second place in the Championship table with a 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

After scoring the winners against Charlton Athletic and Derby County in their last two matches following his arrival on loan from Al Ahly, the 2010 African Nations Cup top goalscorer Gedo made it three in succession in the 25th minute, with Sunderland loanee Elmohamady making the points safe in the second half.

Crystal Palace kept pace in the chase for automatic promotion as Glenn Murray's 28th goal of the season helped set up a 2-1 victory over struggling Bristol City. Stephen Dobbie scored his first goal since arriving on loan from Brighton with a free-kick.

It was a bad night for fifth-placed Leicester City, however, who crashed to a third successive defeat in all competitions at home to Charlton. Yann Kermogant opened the scoring against his former club before Chris Wood equalised, only for Danny Haynes to score the winner with his first touch of the ball.

Elsewhere, Middlesbrough recorded their first draw since the start of November at Burnley to maintain sixth spot, although they are now just two points ahead of Brighton.

Peterborough United's 5-1 mauling of Millwall lifted them off the foot of the table, with Wolves slipping into the bottom three after throwing away the lead against Barnsley to leave Dean Saunders still looking for his first win since taking over from Stale Solbakken last month.
