Keegan makes Stam £10m target for City

Kevin Keegan is hoping that Jaap Stam will return to Manchester – to sign for City.

The Manchester City manager has launched a bid for the Dutch defender who was sold to Lazio by United last year. Stam has had a disappointing season in Serie A, joining Lazio reluctantly and then being banned after testing positive for nandrolone. Lazio have yet to pay United in full for Stam and have been trying to offload him.

He would be expensive in terms of his fee – around £10m – but that has not deterred Keegan or City and the player's wages are unlikely to be a stumbling block either.

Meanwhile, Manchester United say that Ronny Johnsen's injury is a minor hamstring strain and not a recurrence of his old knee problem. Johnsen had complained of soreness following United's defeat to Middlesbrough on Saturday and has been forced to pull out of Norway's friendly in Tunisia on Wednesday.

Sam Allardyce is adding the Belgian World Cup right-back Didier Dheedene and the Greek centre-half Kostas Konstantinidis to his Bolton squad. Dheedene has not settled with the German side Munich 1860 since joining them from Anderlecht last summer and is now free to leave. Konstantinidis has agreed to move from Hertha Berlin and will become a free agent in the summer.

The Leicester chairman John Elsom has accused Leeds fans of "racist" abuse during the Yorkshire club's 2-0 victory at Filbert Street on Saturday. "Leicester City does not welcome the racist comments by Leeds United fans," Elsom said. "City does not want racists in the stadium. Supporters and players should not have to put up with abuse of this nature."

Aalesund's Bjorn Helge Riise has extended his trial period at Leeds. The 18-year-old, the younger brother of Liverpool's John Arne, trained with the side last week but asked for more time to prove himself.

The Chelsea manager, Claudio Ranieri, says that he will not decide whether to accept a two-year contract extension until the end of the season. He has just over a year left on his current deal.

Kidderminster say they have received no new approach for manager Jan Molby despite speculation linking him with the vacancy at Hull.

In an audacious move, Accrington Stanley have asked Everton to loan them David Ginola for the rest of the season – and are willing to pick up his £27,000-a-week wages. The Unibond League club faxed Goodison Park for permission to speak to the French winger who has found himself out of the side under the new manager, David Moyes. The Lancashire team are in the money after picking up a large sell-on windfall from former player Brett Ormerod's move from Blackpool to Southampton.
