Notts County won't rush manager search

Notts County have stressed they will not be rushed into the appointment of a new manager following the departure of Ian McParland.

McParland was relieved of his duties yesterday with the club lying fifth in Coca-Cola League Two and a host of high-profile names have already been linked with the vacancy at Meadow Lane.

But a statement from executive chairman Peter Trembling on the club's official website, www.nottscountyfc.co.uk, read: "We fully understand and appreciate there will be considerable debate about the identity of the new appointment.

"What I can say is that we will take the appropriate amount of time to ensure we make the right appointment. This will be done to our own time schedule.

"As we would all expect, our director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson will be responsible for this appointment.

"Beyond that, we cannot make any further comment at this stage."

McParland's departure was the second high-profile exit at Meadow Lane in recent weeks with former England defender Sol Campbell walking out on the Magpies after just one appearance.

Expectations at the club have rocketed following the arrival of Swiss-based Middle East owners Munto Finance in the summer, and Trembling is aware the board are under pressure to find the ideal successor to McParland.

"Appointing a new football manager is arguably one of the single most important decisions that a football club can take - regardless of whether they are in the Premier League or in non-league football," he added.

"Our next appointment is going to be extremely vital to the project we are endeavouring to deliver here."

Trembling admitted McParland had become the victim of the increased demands for success at the club.

County had lost only three of their opening 12 games and are unbeaten on home soil, but Sunday's 2-2 draw at Torquay left many fans frustrated and seemingly convinced the club to act swiftly.

"Everyone at the football club is genuinely sorry to part company with Ian," said Trembling.

"It is an inescapable fact that the hopes and ambitions of the football club have been totally transformed in the past few months.

"As a board of directors, for footballing reasons we felt a need to make a change to the current situation."
