Palace look to Adebola after capture of Powell

Crystal Palce have completed the £400,000 signing of the Brentford defender Darren Powell – and Dele Adebola is next on the target list.

Powell agreed personal terms in time to play for the Eagles against Preston after the two clubs agreed a fee. The Palace manager Trevor Francis said: "The squad is starting to come together, but I won't say he is the last signing I'll make."

The Burnley manager Stan Ternent has admitted to being "disappointed" at failing to sign Marlon Broomes and Marlon Beresford. The Sheffield Wednesday defender Broomes looks set to join Preston North End, while the Middlesbrough goalkeeper Beresford has opted for York City, leaving the Clarets with no new additions to their squad.

The Reading manager Alan Pardew is still hoping to sign the Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann, despite interest from several other clubs.

Hahnemann was in talks with the Royals this week, but has yet to make up his mind. The American has also entered into negotiations with Luton Town and Walsalll.

The Brentford manager Wally Downes has boosted his squad on the eve of the Second Division season by completing three new signings. The former Scotland Under-21 international Jamie Fullarton has joined after playing in pre-season friendlies against Ipswich and Millwall. The 25-year-old former Reading defender Leo Roget has also signed after featuring against the Lions. The third arrival is the 21-year-old French defender Ibrahima Sonko.

Luton Town have signed the free agent Robbie Winters after losing Adrian Forbes for the season due to cruciate ligament injury. Winters, a former Scottish international striker, was released by Aberdeen over the summer.

Luton Town also yesterday announced outline plans for a new stadium at junction 10 of the M1.
