A League One referee appeared to square up to a player during Ipswich Town’s goalless draw with Northampton Town on Tuesday night.

Footage showed Ipswich’s Alan Judge go down in the penalty area and turn to referee Darren Drysdale appealing for a penalty. When the decision wasn’t given Judge reacted angrily, marching towards Drysdale who stepped in as if to accept the confrontation, leaning with his head.

The pair were separated by Judge’s Ipswich teammates before the referee issued a yellow card.

It was an eventful evening for Drysdale, who sent off Ipswich’s Flynn Downes in the final minutes for violent conduct.

Drysdale could now face disciplinary action from the English Football League for the incident.
