The Coventry City manager, Micky Adams, hailed Dennis Wise after his superb goal inspired the Sky Blues to a 2-1 victory at Championship strugglers Hull City last night.

The 39-year-old former England midfielder scored shortly after the hour with a stunning overhead kick to cancel out Stuart Elliott's 31st-minute opener. The Trinidad and Tobago international Stern John headed the winner with 18 minutes remaining and Adams said of Wise: "They say class is permanent and he showed it with his goal."

Leicester's caretaker, Rob Kelly, asked the club's board keep him informed about the search for a new manager. Kelly guided Leicester to a vital 3-2 win at Queen's Park Rangers in his first Championship match since replacing the sacked Craig Levein, but said: "I want the board to be kind enough to let me know when they are going to appoint another manager."

The Cardiff manager, David Jones, rued a defensive "lapse of concentration" which cost his side in a 1-1 draw at home to Millwall.
