Round-Up: Earnshaw sparks Davies' celebrations

Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies expressed his delight with Robert Earnshaw after the former Rams striker fired in the 79th-minute winner from the edge of the area to beat Derby County 1-0 at Pride Park on Saturday.

"It was a first-class goal," said Davies, who also had a spell at Derby and exuberantly celebrated Forest's first win at the home of their east Midlands rivals since 1994 on the pitch at the end. Forest, who are now sixth in the table, completed their first double over Derby in 21 years, having beaten them 5-2 at the City Ground in December and Davies added: "It was a great three points and I was pleased with the discipline and character that we showed. It's a very proud achievement, the double in the first time in how many years it is."

Derby, who had Dean Moxey sent off, have now won just once in nine league games, but did receive some positive news yesterday when captain Robbie Savage turned down an offer to join Major League soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps. "I'm going to stay here," he announced on his Twitter account. "Canada was a great option but it was too big a move for my family."

Dave Jones, the Cardiff City manager, was satisfied with his side's performance as they moved into second following their 4-2 victory over Watford. "We made it harder than necessary as we switched off at 3-0 up," said Jones after strikes from Craig Bellamy, Michael Chopra and Jay Bothroyd had put Cardiff in control before Watford launched a fightback killed off by Gabor Gyepes' late goal.

According to Paul Lambert, the Norwich manager, Andrew Crofts is "one of the best midfielders in the league". The 26-year-old scored both goals in the Canaries' 2-1 win over Sheffield United, lifting Norwich to third.

Richard Wellens was lauded by his manager Sven Goran Eriksson after the midfielder played an influential role in Leicester's 4-2 win over Millwall, ending the Lions' nine-game unbeaten league run. "He's a hard worker," Eriksson said. "His touches, his passing – he's very, very good." Sol Bamba scored twice for Leicester and Yakubu got his second goal in two games since his loan move from Everton.
