Celebrities, football stars and fire fighters came together on Saturday afternoon to commemorate and raise funds for the victims of the Grenfell Tower tragedy in a charity match at Loftus Road.

The two sides – managed by former QPR striker Les Ferdinand and ex-England captain Alan Shearer – could not be separated in normal time, sharing a 2-2 draw before penalties.

Four-time Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah opened the scoring, pouncing on a loose ball in the area and following up with a trademark Mo-bot celebration.

Former QPR winger Trevor Sinclair levelled for Team Shearer and then put them ahead, beating goalkeeper Shay Given from a free-kick.

Kasabian’s Chris Edwards equalised, slotting home past Manchester United manager and part-time goalkeeper Jose Mourinho who was also booked for time-wasting.

Among other famous faces involved were actor Damien Lewis, former England striker Peter Crouch and singer Olly Murs.

It was Murs who converted the winning penalty for Team Ferdinand but the result was not what mattered.

The game was preceded by a minute’s silence as the 18,000 inside the stadium remembered those who lost their lives in the fire.

The biggest cheer of the day came as Grenfell fire fighters Greg Jules, Adam Foster, David Badillo and Dean Smith came on as substitutes.

All money raised from the game will go through London Community Foundation to the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund and then distributed to survivors and the local community.
