Australia's women's football team provided the upset of the World Cup so far when they knocked out Brazil in the round of 16.

Kyah Simon scored the only goal of the game for the Matildas, who will face the winner of the game between Japan and the Netherlands.

Simon, 23, pounced at the far post to slot home the only goal of the game.

The 1-0 defeat means that Brazil captain Marta, one of the best players to ever play, will again have to wait for another chance to win the women's World Cup.

The 29-year-old has been named World Player of the Year five times, and has been in the top three of the award every year since 2004
