The Crewe Alexandra youngster David Vaughan has been rushed into the full Wales squad for tomorrow's friendly against Croatia in Varazdin.

The 19-year-old, who turned down an England Under-21 call-up last season, has decided to opt for the country of his birth over that of his parents. The St Asaph-born player has answered manager Mark Hughes' call after seven senior players pulled out.

Wales have also called up the Norwich winger Chris Llewellyn. He has won 10 Under-21 caps and two full caps, as a substitute against Malta and Tunisia in 1998.

Scotland are likely to be without Dominic Matteo for tomorrow's friendly against Denmark at Hampden Park. The Leeds defender failed to figure in his club's win over Manchester City on Saturday because of injury. Rangers' Barry Ferguson, Hearts' Scott Severin and Aberdeen's Kevin McNaughton are all expected to play, though.

The Northern Ireland manager Sammy McIlroy has lost six members of his original 20-man squad to face Cyprus in tomorrow's friendly after a series of weekend injuries.

The goalkeeper Roy Carroll, at the request of Manchester United following an injury to Fabien Barthez, and the midfielder Steve Lomas were ruled out last week. Also out now are the midfielder Philip Mulryne, forwards Stuart Elliott and Paul McVeigh and defender Gerry Taggart.

Grant McCann of West Ham and Luton Town's Stephen Robinson have been drafted in, while the Sunderland goalkeeper Michael Ingham was called up last week.
