Lazio's Swedish coach Sven Goran Eriksson has agreed to manage England, according to reports in Italy.

Lazio's Swedish coach Sven Goran Eriksson has agreed to manage England, according to reports in Italy.

The ANSA news agency claims Eriksson has already signed a contract with the Football Association to take over on July 1, 2001.

It said Italian champions Lazio agreed that Eriksson could leave at the end of the current season, and that he had signed a contract with the English FA that would last for "several years".

ANSA quoted Eriksson as declining to comment on its report. "I'm not talking to the media," he said.

Kevin Keegan resigned as England coach after a 1-0 defeat by Germany in a World Cup qualifier earlier this month.

Leicester City manager Peter Taylor and Manchester United's number two Steve McLaren are in temporary charge for England's friendly against Italy on November 15.
