Wayne Rooney believes he is in the best England form of his life after five goals in his last three internationals.
Two goals from the Manchester United forward helped England beat Belarus 3-1 on Wednesday for a fourth successive win in Group Six, England's best start to a World Cup qualifying campaign.
"Belaroos! Two-goal Wayne is unstoppable ... England are unstoppable," blared the back page of Thursday's Daily Mirror.
"Perfect England, peerless Rooney," wrote the Times.
Rooney, who scored twice in England's 5-1 weekend win over Kazakhstan and once against Croatia last month, said he was playing even better than at Euro 2004, where as a teenager he lit up the tournament with his precocious goals.
"I think it's probably the best I've ever played for England to be honest. I'm enjoying my football, I'm getting on the ball, scoring goals, making goals," the 22-year-old told the BBC, adding that coach Fabio Capello had helped him find his form.
"Since he's come over he's helped me with my finishing, he's given me advice on movements, different spaces on the pitch.
"Goals are flying in for both club and country so hopefully that can continue. I'm enjoying it at the minute."
Capello has not just helped sharpen Rooney's finishing, he has provided him with an attacking partnership that works in the form of the hard-working Emile Heskey.
Heskey, who has not scored for England in his last 17 appearances over the past five-and-a-half years, set up Rooney's first goal on Wednesday and has seemed to bring out the best in him.
Capello has spoken of Heskey's importance to the side and on Thursday the media were converted, with the Daily Mirror devoting two pages to "Why we're all in love with Heskey ... a striker who doesn't score goals."
