Qatar and Russia, hosts of 2022 and 2018 World Cups, 'shouldn't feel very comfortable' - Greg Dyke warns after Sepp Blatter quits

Chairman of the FA turns attention to upcoming tournaments

Following Sepp Blatter's resignation as president of Fifa last night, Greg Dyke, the chairman of the English FA, was quick to turn his attention to the hosts of the next two World Cups.

Blatter, who has been in charge of world football's governing body since 1998, only won a fifth term as president last week. However allegations of corruption and arrests of top Fifa officials have taken their toll, leading to his decision to stand down as soon as a successor can be elected. There are also suggestions that the FBI's investigation has stretched to him.

Many of the allegations against Fifa relate to the awarding of the upcoming World Cups in Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022 - bids that have been dogged by bribery allegations ever since they won.

Dyke was quick to turn attention to the hosts of those tournaments.

"We can go back to looking at those two World Cups," he said. "If I were Qatar right now I wouldn’t be feeling very comfortable."

On Blatter he said: "Something has come out of the events of last week that has caused Mr Blatter to resign ... He’s gone.

"At long last we can sort out Fifa."

Should either Qatar or Russia be stripped of the tournament, England would be among the favourites to replace them.
