Wales vs Portugal: Hal Robson-Kanu receives multiple offers after superb goal against Belgium at Euro 2016

Robson-Kanu's stunning turn and strike against Belgium has helped the free agent receive a number of job offers

Wales’ Hal Robson-Kanu said on Sunday that his agent had been busy fielding offers of work for him since he scored his superb goal in the Euro 2016 quarter-final win over Belgium.

The 27-year-old’s Reading contract ended 24 hours before he lined up against the Belgians but the goal he himself described as “Cruyffesque” has helped. “Yes,” he said to the suggestion that his agent had received multiple offers of work. “The position I’m in is quite unique but as a player the focus is on the next game, such an important game for all involved and we’re taking the opportunity there very seriously.”

Wales manager Chris Coleman said he had been surprised Robson-Kanu was now not attached to a club. From almost missing the European Championships through an ankle injury sustained on the eve of the tournament, he was one of the most talked about players of the remaining nations at the weekend.

“That’s the crazy nature of football,” Coleman said on Sunday. “It shows how quickly things can turn. For 24-48 hours we didn’t know if Hal could make tournament. We had big fears and doubts when he was injured. It could have been very different, missing the tournament and without a contract: not a great position. But he made the tournament, worked extremely hard and he comes in and played in huge games. He has shown he can play at this level and has a lot to offer.

“I’m not surprised he played as well as he did and took his goal brilliantly. That’s how football can change. I’d imagine there’s a lot of interest and he deserves it. But he knows there’s work to be done here.”

Robson-Kanu had been at Reading for 12 years and has said that he deliberately ran down his contract there to place his future in his own hands. He has scored 24 goals in 198 appearances for the club.
