World Cup 2014: Arsenal hail Costa Rica star Joel Campbell on Twitter after the Gunners striker sends Uruguay crashing to defeat

The Gunners dropped the biggest hint yet that the young forward could finally play in an Arsenal shirt next season after a stunning performance in Fortaleza.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reported to be in the market for a new striker this summer, but Joel Campbell's performance in the opening game of the World Cup may convince him to put his faith into the young forward.

Campbell scored one and set up another as the Latin American nation provided the biggest shock so far at the World Cup to go top of Group D on goal difference.

The 21-year-old joined the north London side from Saprissa for £1 million in 2011 but is yet to appear for the Gunners after failing to gain a work permit, spending the last three seasons on loan at Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiakos.

And after impressing with the Greek side this last season, Arsenal will be hoping he can finally get the green light to play in the Premier League after his superb performance against Uruguay inspired Costa Rica to a sensational 3-1 victory.

The club wasted no time in proving they were behind their young star, compiling three tweets in support of his performance, and such was the focus on his display, it could suggest that Campbell may be staying at the Emirates for the 2014/15 season.

With 34 caps and 10 goals for Costa Rica, it seems Campbell has a bright future in the game and he should get a work permit at the fourth time of asking as he has been playing regularly for Olympiakos, where he scored 9 goals in 37 appearances.

Nevertheless, it remains a possibility that he could be denied a permit once again, and performances such as this will do no harm to his chances of securing another loan or even permanent move elswhere if he is unable to play for Arsenal.
