The biggest transfer story of the window has, of course, been Manchester United’s interest in Sporting Lisbon skipper Bruno Fernandes. After weeks of little movement we are expecting that story to progress significantly in the next 48 hours, as United move to bolster their injury-hit squad. One of Wednesday’s most intriguing rumours was that Daniel Levy has contacted Real Madrid about potentially bringing Gareth Bale back to the club on loan. The Welshman would be open to the move and Real are desperate for him to leave the club – but will Spurs be able to afford his staggering wages, even if partially subsidised by the Spanish giants?
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been fairly active this month and could move for a third younger player while also continuing to monitor Timo Werner, who appears increasingly open to a move to Anfield. And Chelsea are also chasing a new striker and expect the Premier League rivals to clash over the next few days as they pursue similar transfer targets. United and Chelsea have both been linked with Dinamo and Spain star Dani Olmo. There could also be some big moves across Europe. Real Madrid have been linked with a £68m move for Timo Werner, as well as Flamengo wonder kid Reinier, while Arsenal have turned their eyes to RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano as a long-term target.
A slightly strange one: Wolves are reportedly interested in snapping up AEK Athens striker Nelson Oliveira.
The former Norwich, Forest and Reading striker has impressed in Greece and could be brought in as a back-up option at Wolves.

Cardiff have issued a statement on the anniversary of Emiliano Sala's death.
The Argentine forward died on January 21, 2019 when the plane carrying him from Nantes in France to his new club Cardiff crashed in the English Channel near Guernsey.
"All of our thoughts are with the family and friends of Emiliano Sala and (pilot) David Ibbotson," said a club statement on behalf of the owner Vicent Tan and the board.
"The pain they have been through over the last 12 months must be indescribable.
"To mark the anniversary we are welcoming supporters to lay floral tributes at the Fred Keenor Statue throughout the day."
Chelsea are reportedly on 'red alert' after Porto defender Alex Telles told the Portuguese club he does not want to sign a new contract and wishes to move away.
The Blues are however likely to face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, according to the Daily Mail.
Confirmation of last night's very late done deal...
There has been no further progress made between Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon this week, according to the Daily Record.
However, their report adds that Bruno Fernandes is seemingly very confident of moving and is already telling friends that he is 'sure' he will be a Manchester United player by the end of the month.
Kylian Mbappe has spoken to the BBC about rumours he could quit PSG for Real Madrid.
“Everyone talks about it – when I was young I talked about it too,” said Mbappe of persistent rumours he could join Real Madrid. “But now I’m a player and I know it’s not the moment.
“We are in January – it’s the money time of the season. Imagine I answer your question and say something. Everybody will talk about it and it’s not good for PSG.
“Now I’m with PSG and I’m 100% with the club. I want to help the club grow this season, to win a lot of titles, so for me it’s not good to talk about [my future].

Victor Moses has arrived in Milan ahead of his Inter medical, according to Sky Italy.
The wing-back arrived in Italy last night and is poised to sign a deal with the Serie A side in the next 24 hours.
