It’s a big game for

Joe Gomez. The young full-back has started in six of Liverpool’s nine games since joining from Charlton in the summer. Despite being very much in Brendan Rodgers’ Premier League plans, Gomez is likely to be given the chance to impress further in the Europa League.

Best stat

5: FC Sion are one of only five teams to score three or more goals in a European game at Anfield.

Remember when...

FC Sion gave Liverpool a scare in the 1996-97 Cup Winners’ Cup? The Swiss side took a 2-0 and 3-2 lead at Anfield before eventually losing 6-3.

Player to watch

Danny Ings has not made the impact that he had hoped at Anfield. But with Daniel Sturridge being rested, Ings has an opportunity to get amongst the goals in Europe. The former Burnley forward scored his first Liverpool goal in a 1-1 draw with Norwich a fortnight ago.

Jordan Rossiter will also be hoping for more game time at Anfield. The 18-year old central midfielder has been given his chance to shine in cup competitions this season and there will no harm in throwing Rossiter into the fold when Sion visit Merseyside.
