Graeme Souness thinks Savo Milosevic could be the striker to take Blackburn to a place in Europe. The Rovers manager hopes to sign the former Aston Villa player from Parma on loan with a view to a permanent move, but the deal is on hold until this weekend as the former Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi settles into the Parma job after Daniel Passarella was dismissed.

Milosevic would cost a substantial amount it is only 18 months since Parma paid Real Zaragoza £11m for the 28-year-old Yugoslav international.

"He's one that excites you," Souness said. "You look at his goalscoring record and it's very, very good, both at club level and on the international scene."

Wolves have signed Australian goalkeeper Danny Milosevic on loan from Leeds. The 23-year-old completed a £110,000 switch from Perth Glory last January but has failed to break into David O'Leary's first team.

Bolton want to sign Borussia Dortmund's German international striker, Fredi Bobic. Wanderers' manager, Sam Allardyce, who hopes to secure the 30-year-old in the next 48 hours, considers him an ideal partner for Michael Ricketts.

Patrick Vieira is to open talks with Arsenal after saying he may leave next summer. "I don't know what I will be doing next year," the 25-year-old midfielder said. "I have two years left on my contract but I will make my decision before the World Cup."

Any Football Association charge against Vieira's team-mate Thierry Henry may be delayed until the new year. The FA are writing to Arsenal, asking the club and Henry to give their version of events following the player's rant at referee Graham Poll after the Gunners' 3-1 defeat by Newcastle at Highbury on Tuesday.

England will have four teams in the Champions' League next season, Eurpean fotball's governing body, Uefa, confirmed yesterday. The success of Premiership clubs in Europe has boosted England's coefficient rating, securing an extra place at the expense of Germany.

Wales will play Germany at the Millennium Stadium on 14 May as part of the Germans' preparations for the World Cup finals. Germany also have friendlies lined up against Israel, the United States, Argentina, Kuwait and Austria.
