EA Sports will allow the public to vote on which player will feature on the cover of popular video game Fifa 17.

James Rodriguez, the Real Madrid playmaker, faces competition from Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Manchester United’s Anthony Martial to be the star.

“James, Martial, Hazard, and Reus represent exciting, attacking football and epitomize the innovative play that fans can expect in FIFA 17,” said Nick Channon, senior producer for EA Sports Fifa.

“We’re excited to see fans rally around their favorite players and see who they select as the cover star for the franchise, and the footballer who will represent FIFA 17 globally.”

Users can cast their vote on the FIFA cover vote website, with polls opening on Tuesday. Fans can cast a vote once per day for their favourite player.

Last year, EA Sports invited gamers to choose between Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson.

Henderson came out on top in the poll and partnered Lionel Messi, the Barcelona playmaker, on the game cover.

Voting for this year's cover will close on 20 July, with the winner revealed at the end of the month.
