Hamann drink-drive trial postponed

By Kim Pilling, PA

A new trial date was fixed today for former Liverpool footballer Dietmar Hamann who is accused of drink driving.

The hearing was scheduled to take place at Trafford Magistrates' Court, but District Judge Wendy Lloyd ruled the case was not ready to proceed as evidence in the case still needed to be analysed,

Hamann, 36, of Styal, Cheshire, was stopped by police at 12.15am on July 12 this year by junction six of the M56 motorway, near his home.

The former Germany international, who was released by Manchester City at the end of last season, pleaded not guilty to the charge at an earlier court hearing.

Hamann, who attended today, was told to return to the court on February 23 when the one-day trial is now set to take place.
