Radamel Falcao is expected to return to the Manchester United starting XI for the Premier League match against Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The misfiring Colombian striker, on loan for the rest of the season from Monaco, is in line to lead United's attack with forwards James Wilson and Robin van Persie both out injured.

Falcao, who was as unused substitute against Swansea on Saturday, has scored only four times in 19 appearances for United this season, and it is looking increasingly unlikely the club will make his move permanent for £43m at the end of the season.

Wilson, 19, suffered a dead leg while playing for the United U-21s on Monday night int he 1-1 draw at Sunderland, and was forced off in the 39th-minute.

United are assessing Van Persie's ankle injury. The Dutch striker left Swansea's Liberty Stadium on crutches on Saturday, and was seen with his right foot and bottom of his leg in a protective cast.

Louis van Gaal's other injury concern is Michael Carrick - the midfielder has a calf muscle and is expected to be sidelined until early March.
