Non-League Ashley Flynn produces the worst 'Panenka' penalty of all-time for AFC Emley

Striker later took to Twitter to apologise

But it takes a particularly brave and confident player to attempt the audacious 'Panenka' style penalty.

Patented by Czech star Antonin Panenka, who delicately chipped the ball in the 1976 European Championships against Germany, the nonchalant shot has been deployed by a host of celebrated talents including Francesco Totti, Zinedine Zidane and Andrea Pirlo, who memorably beat Joe Hart at Euro 2012 with his own version.

And then there is Ash Flynn who was branded a 'muppet' by one groaning fan when he tried - and failed a panenka in AFC Emley's 0-3 defeat to Hemsworth Miners Welfare, in the first division of the Northern Counties East League.

Flynn was quick to apologise to fans of the Yorkshire-based club afterwards.

"Would like to apologise to everyone at AFC Emley today for my performance and for the penalty," he wrote on Twitter. "Something I've always done and backfired."
