Ricky Villa was perhaps the least surprising name on a shortlist released yesterday of the 10 greatest goals ever scored at Wembley.

The England team sponsors have launched a survey to find the best goal scored in the 77-year history of Wembley Stadium. The Nationwide building society is giving supporters the chance to vote for their favourite strike on their football website - www.footballnow.co.uk.

Fans voting for the goal that wins will be put into a draw, and the winner will get a VIP trip to the England-Germany World Cup qualifier in October. Fans can vote from a shortlist of 10 goals.

SHORTLIST: Ricky Villa (Tottenham v Manchester City, 1981); Paul Gascoigne (England v Scotland, 1996); Keith Houchen (Coventry v Tottenham, 1987); Stan Mortensen (third of three, Blackpool v Bolton, 1953); Roberto di Matteo (Chelsea v Middlesbrough, 1997); Paul Gascoigne (Tottenham v Arsenal, 1990); Geoff Hurst (third of three, England v Germany, 1966); Kenny Dalglish (Liverpool v Bruges, 1978); Norman Whiteside (Manchester United v Everton, 1985); Bobby Charlton (England v Mexico, 1966).
