Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he would like to play in the same side as Lionel Messi.

The duo are up for tonight's Fifa Ballon d'Or award, along with Manuel Neuer, which recognises the best player on the planet.

Ahead of tonight's announcement the trio have been speaking to the press, where they were asked who they would like to play with from the past.

Messi, sitting on the fence somewhat said he would like to play with "many from the past".

But Ronaldo took the opportunity to compliment his fellow nominees for football's most prestigious individual award by saying he would like to play in a team with the pair of them.

"It would be nice to have the three of us together on the same team. That would be a good thing!" said the reigning Ballon d'Or holder.

"I think I'd like to have the two on stage now in my historic team."

It seemed Messi then realised he should perhaps have made the same suggestion and quickly returned the compliment to Ronaldo.

"You're asking about best players of all time and I think [Ronaldo] will be one of them. Would love to have played with him," he said.
