Football round-up: Scott Hogan's a hero as Leeds crash out at Rochdale

Rochdale registered one of the shocks of the FA Cup third round yesterday as the League Two side sent Leeds United crashing out with a 2-0 win at Spotland. Goals towards the end of each half from Scott Hogan and Ian Henderson secured a place in the fourth round and Brian McDermott's in-form Championship team could have few complaints after a poor display. The hosts took a deserved lead at the end of the first half when Hogan drifted between Marius Zaliukas and Jason Pearce to meet Peter Vincenti's cross and send a looping header over Paddy Kenny for his 11th goal of the season. The result was sealed in the 83rd minute when Graham Cummins picked out Henderson who volleyed into the top corner.

Silkmen show their steel

Steve Williams' second-half effort earned non-league Macclesfield Town a replay with a 1-1 draw at home to Sheffield Wednesday. The Championship side took the lead in the first half from Reda Johnson's header but the Silkmen fought back with Williams poking home their equaliser to secure a much-needed financial boost for Macclesfield.

Holders held by MK Dons

Wigan face a tricky third-round replay at MK Dons after a thrilling 3-3 home draw. The holders were deservedly two goals up inside 25 minutes. Roger Espinoza fired the opener on 18 minutes before Jordi Gomez made it 2-0 shortly afterwards. But Wigan were pegged back with two goals in the space of two minutes just before the interval. First, Ben Reeves beat Ali Al Habsi with a neat shot into the left-hand corner and he then repeated the feat by steering a cross into the same spot. Shaun Williams' second-half penalty was then superbly saved by Al Habsi and Wigan thought the tie was secure when Callum McManaman restored their lead. But the Dons were not finished and, with eight minutes remaining, Patrick Bamford fired home another equaliser.

Dark day for Millwall

Southend United piled on the misery for managerless Millwall with a 4-1 hammering at Roots Hall. Barry Corr put the League Two side ahead with a fine header before a floodlight failure led to a 20-minute delay. Will Atkinson doubled the advantage before the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Jermaine Easter saw red for an alleged stamp. Michael Timlin and Ryan Leonard added further goals while Martyn Woolford snatched a consolation for the Championship side.

Stevenage hail king Charles

Stevenage knocked out Doncaster Rovers with a 3-2 win at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Francois Zoko and Peter Hartley gave the League One side a 2-0 lead before Harry Forrester pulled a goal back for Rovers. But Darius Charles made it 3-1 which meant Liam Wakefield's late strike was academic the struggling Championship side.

Clarke attack stuns Barnsley

Second-half goals from Franck Moussa and Leon Clarke saw Coventry City win 2-1 at Barnsley after Jim O'Brien had opened the scoring for the Championship club. Following a lacklustre display before the break, Steven Pressley's in-form League One team dominated much of the second half and deservedly claimed a place in the fourth round.

Koke is it for Atletico

A second-half strike from Koke secured a 1-0 win for Atletico Madrid at Malaga to send Diego Simeone's side top of the Spanish league. They now hold a clear advantage over Barcelona who play Elche today. Koke, a midfield transfer target for Manchester United, rifled home a rebound in the 70 minute.
