Two Rangers fans have been charged with assaulting a police officer during violent clashes at the Uefa Cup final in Manchester last year, the Crown Prosecution Service said today.

Scott McSeveney, 21, of Shotts, North Lanarkshire, and Mark Stoddart, 25, from Glasgow, were both charged with violent disorder and a Section 47 assault against Pc John Goodwin, whose ordeal was caught on CCTV.

A Crown Prosecution Service spokesman said: "The charges are in relation to the disorder that occurred on the evening of 14 May, 2008, in Manchester city centre and specifically relate to the attack on Pc Goodwin, who was kicked and stamped upon whilst on the floor."
