Swansea's Garry Monk says he has 'no problem' with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal

Swansea manager Garry Monk insists he has "no problem" with Louis van Gaal in the wake of the Manchester United manager giving the Welsh club little credit for their historic Liberty Stadium victory last weekend.

Van Gaal labelled United's 2-1 defeat as "amazing" as he pointed to their superior possession and territory his side enjoyed last weekend, even if the "dominance" the Dutchman referred to was not reflected in the chances created column.

The dust had not settled on those post-match comments when reports emerged of Swansea director John van Zweden allegedly insulting his compatriot Van Gaal for being arrogant soon after the final whistle.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins responded to those reports by saying the matter would be investigated and internal action would be taken if considered appropriate - but Monk said he was not bothered by Van Gaal's post-match comments.

"It does not matter to me," said Monk, who revealed he did not speak to Van Gaal after the game because of the two managers' respective media commitments.

"We set out a plan and a clear way of working which paid off in the game, what other people say is their prerogative.

"It is there in black and white what we did and what we deserved and the result was what we deserved.

"But I have no problem with Louis Van Gaal, he is an experienced manager with a great belief in his side and what he has done in the game.

"You do not always agree with other manager's opinions, but that is their prerogative.

"I did not agree with his assessment at the end but it does not concern me as every manager has his view, we just move on."

Monk distanced himself from the comments attributed to Van Zweden at his press conference before Saturday's trip to Burnley by saying they did not represent the club.

"I was made aware of it but I am not fully aware of what context they were in or what was actually said and how it was said," Monk said.

"But they're obviously not the views of myself, the team or the club itself.

"The chairman has already said that and those type of matters you obviously leave to the chairman to deal with."

Swansea seek to follow up their first-ever league double over United by completing another one at Turf Moor.

Victory would see Swansea reach the 40-point mark in the quickest time in their history and Monk admits that has focused the minds of the players before they head north.

"It is a big motivation and we have to use that sort of stat to go on and do well," Monk said.

"It will be extremely tough and the drive has to be there for us to get the outcome we want.

"It will never be easy but we need to get to that 40-point mark sooner rather than later."
