Despite fears that this weekend's FA Cup programme would be affected significantly by the continuing wet weather, there were grounds for cautious optimism yesterday, with no early postponements of any of the scheduled third-round ties.

One tie at risk is Cambridge United's home game against Millwall. An inspection will be held at the Abbey stadium at 9am today to determine whether the game can go ahead.

Gillingham's home tie against Sheffield Wednesday was given the all-clear yesterday after the match referee Paul Taylor declared himself satisfied with the surface at Priestfield Stadium. Taylor decided the pitch had recovered from recent rain, which earlier in the week saw the league games against Wimbledon and Norwich postponed.

Supporters are nevertheless advised to check the latest news bulletins before setting off for today's matches.
