Alberto Moreno should have been celebrating one of the goals of the season, but his effort, for Liverpool in their match against Newcastle today, was ruled offside in controversial fashion (watch below).

The Liverpool full-back received James Milner's diagonal pass and volleyed the ball past Rob Elliot with a stunning finish.

Unfortunately for him, and Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, the goal was disallowed for offside, despite the Spaniard appearing level with the Newcastle defence.

MORENO'S 'GOAL' AGAINST NEWCASTLE

It would have been the equalising goal for the Reds. Newcastle had taken the lead in the 69th-minute thanks to Martin Skrtel's own goal when the Liverpool defender steered a Georgino Wijnaldum shot into his own net.

Wijnaldum sealed the result for Newcastle with a fine finish deep into injury time.
