Arsenal fans, including Piers Morgan, have reacted to the news that their club's largest shareholder Stan Kroenke has spent in the region of £500m purchasing a ranch in Texas.

Kroenke used a sizeable chunk of his £5bn fortune to purchase the land which is spread of six counties in the southern state. The exact price paid is unknown, however the asking price was £500m. The BBC report that he now owns 865,000 acres of land in the United States, making him the ninth biggest land owner in his home nation.

The willingness of Kroenke to spend so much money on the ranch has been noted for its contrast with his perceived frugality at Arsenal. During his time as a major stakeholder in the club, the Gunners have become renowned for their reluctance to spend freely in the transfer market in comparison to their rivals.

That perception is arguably unfair considering the club spent £42.5m on Mesut Ozil and £35m on Alexis Sanchez. Yet that didn't stop Arsenal fans from expressing a mixture of anger and frustration on Twitter at the news...

Despite the anger of some fans, there is no evidence to suggest that Kroenke's personal spending has any impact on his levels of financial backing of Arsenal.
