Arsenal vs Leicester: Arsene Wenger pleased to have Alexis Sanchez back from injury after Gunners 'lacked physicality' in Spurs defeat

Sanchez has missed the last two games for Arsenal but will return from a hamstring injury in the Premier League encounter against Leicester on Tuesday

Arsene Wenger is looking forward to welcoming Alexis Sanchez back into the Arsenal squad for tomorrow night’s game against Leicester City.

The little Chilean has been comfortably Arsenal’s best player this season but missed their last two games – including Saturday’s defeat at White Hart Lane – and Wenger is delighted that he will be involved tomorrow evening.

“Sanchez will be back in the group,” Wenger said at this morning’s press conference. Sanchez has already started 30 official games this season and scored 18 goals. When he does not play Arsenal miss him.

“He is our best goal-scorer and one of our hardest working players in the team. Physically I think we suffered a little bit on some occasions on Saturday. It’s good to have him back.”

Jack Wilshere is back in full training this week, more than two months after undergoing ankle surgery. “We have to monitor him on a daily basis,” Wenger said, “and see how he develops.”

Despite Saturday’s set-back at White Hart Lane, Wenger was still confident about the very tight race to finish in the top four. The teams between third and sixth are separated by three points and if Arsenal win tomorrow night they will go third, even if they are soon overtaken.

Arsenal have qualified for the Champions League for the last 16 consecutive seasons and Wenger believes that experience will put them in good stead.

“It will be tight, and that it is what it is about,” Wenger said. “It is about the team that is most consistent. We have shown in the past that we can deal with that kind of pressure and we can do it again.”
