Arsenal have no margin for error in Champions League hunt says Mikel Arteta

Arsenal and Leicester City fought out an entertaining 1-1 draw in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Both teams had gone close before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring midway through the first half, tapping home after Bukayo Saka had turned the Leicester defence inside out.

Kelechi Iheanacho and Alexandre Lacazette had goals ruled out for offsides, while both goalkeepers were forced into saves in slippery conditions.

The Gunners then had Eddie Nketiah sent-off after a pitchside monitor review, just two minutes after coming on as sub, and Jamie Vardy netted a close-range equaliser in the final minutes.

Here are the player ratings from the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal

Emiliano Martinez – 8. Didn’t have to do huge amounts, but everything was assured, confident and competent in tricky conditions. One good save from Iheanacho.

Shkodran Mustafi – 6. Spent a lot of the game getting patched up by physios.

David Luiz – 7. Good concentration, made a couple of important blocks. Nothing silly on a slick surface.

Sead Kolasinac – 8. Defended well, got forward well. The system which suits him best, like so many others at Arsenal. Not restricted to staying back and was an extra body on the counter.

Hector Bellerin – 7. Positionally good, diligently tracked his man. Not always accurate on the final cross or pass, but didn’t waste possession.

Dani Ceballos – 8. Tremendous ball through the middle for the opener. Worked hard to find space, made a few interceptions to help his team defensively. Non-stop running all game.

Granit Xhaka – 5. Overshadowed by his team-mate in the centre. Didn’t really affect the game in either half.

Kieran Tierney – 8. Man of the Match. Constant outlet, really dangerous with low, left-footed crosses into the six-yard box. Too few players attacked them but the service was there.

Bukayo Saka – 7. So skillful, so cool in the final third. Defenders can’t touch him. Probably didn’t see enough of the ball after the opening half-hour.

Alexandre Lacazette – 7. A good outing where he worked hard, linked play, held the ball up in deep areas and toe-poked in from an offside position.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 7. Good movement as ever. Always knows where and when to appear to plunder a goal. Up to 20 for the season.

Leicester City

Kasper Schmeichel – 8. Superb one-handed save from Lacazette and a couple of other reaction stops. Would have been more than one if not for him.

Ryan Bennett – 6. Solid enough. Most of the danger came down the other side in the first half.

Jonny Evans – 5. Saka sold him a huge dummy for the opening goal. Never really got to grips with the movement in Arsenal’s attack.

Caglar Soyuncu -5. Didn’t cover himself in glory on the opening goal. Totally out of place on the left of a three, caught between pushing up and dropping back.

James Justin – 6. Got forward really well, at times the biggest goal threat. Good runs down the flank and an intriguing battle with Tierney.

Wilfred Ndidi – 6. Not one of his most influential games. Couldn’t shut down Ceballos, wasted the ball going forward more than once.

Youri Tielemans – 7. Clever and selfless in his passing but didn’t really control proceedings.

Marc Albrighton – 5. He’s not a wing-back. He’s certainly not a left wing-back.

Ayoze Perez – 5. A lot of emphasis on him in the creative role behind the front men. Had no shots and managed one key pass.

Jamie Vardy – 8. Bright, tough to track, constantly annoying the defence with runs in front of them. Created a couple, missed one or two...then buried a late equaliser.

Kelechi Iheanacho – 6. Got through plenty of work but didn’t have the quality to make his chances count.
