Arsenal vs Lyon player ratings: Olivier Giroud, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mesut Ozil all on target for rampant Gunners

Damien Martinez: Was not called into action often but when he was he did all that could have been expected from him, making one excellent save from Lacazette. 6

Mathieu Debuchy: As the match wore on he showed more of himself as an attacking force but this was a rather muted display by the Frenchman, who looked rather more tired than the rest of his colleagues. 6

Per Mertesacker: Excellent in the air as ever he looked dependable on the rare occasions he was needed. 6

Laurent Koscielny: When the game was level he was impressive, covering behind the backline well to deal with the dangerous N’jie. 6

Kieran Gibbs: When given the chances to attack that Lyon gave him he is as exciting a full-back as any in the Premier League. Invariably provided a further threat on Arsenal’s left. 7

Francis Coquelin: On two occasions late in the first half Fekir was able to breeze past him with no problems. That aside though this was a calm day for Arsenal’s midfield engine. 6

Aaron Ramsey:

In his favourite central role he was able to create and finish with aplomb, providing a series of scintillating long balls, the highlight of which came for Oxlade-Chamberlain’s. 8

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: He runs at opponents and brought drive, energy and incision to Arsenal’s creativity. A well-taken effort slotted into the corner was heavily reminiscent of wing rival Theo Walcott. 9

Mesut Ozil: With no Cazorla, Sanchez or Wilshere he had to shoulder the majority of the creative burden. And he thrived under it. His assist for Ramsey is further evidence Arsenal’s record signing sees the game in a way no Gunner has since Dennis Bergkamp. 8

Alex Iwobi: Staked his claim for a squad role this season with another excellent performance. He developed a strong understanding with Ozil early on that was rewarded with a well-taken goal. 8

Olivier Giroud:

Until he shouldered in the opener this looked like it may not be his day, but the goal sparked the Frenchman’s confidence and soon the array of neat flicks were present and correct. 7

Chuba Akpom: Stationed on the left rather than through the middle he showed versatility and no little pace, winning the free-kick for Arsenal’s sixth. 7

Santi Cazorla: A driven effort from a 23-yard set-piece capped off a pleasing cameo for the Spaniard, who enjoyed his time further forward. 7

Lyon

Anthony Lopes: Could do nothing to stem the tide in the first half and rarely had a chance to actually stop a shot, so often did his colleagues leave their opponents one-on-one with him. 6

Mahdi Zeffane: With Iwobi and Ozil switching positions at will the young full-back was unable to do anything to stem the tide. At best you might say he will learn a great deal from this experience. 5

Samuel Umtiti: Perhaps the least bad in this youthful Lyon backline but he struggled to deal with the physical presence of Giroud. 5

Lindsay Rose: A foolish booking early in the game left him with no margin for error as Arsenal streamed forward. 5

Ulrik Yttergard Ennssen: Oxlade-Chamberlain pulled the full-back out of positon time and again so that by the second half Jennssen looked a broken man. 4

Maxime Gonalons: Where was Lyon’s midfield enforcer when Arsenal ran riot in the second half? Nowhere to be seen as the opponents bypassed him time and again. 5

Jordan Ferri: One break from deep aside this was a quiet display from one of Hubert Fournier’s top prospects. Did not have the time and space to express his passing range. 5

Corentin Tolisso: Did far, far too little to stop Giroud getting his head to the ball for Arsenal’s opener and seemed to abandon all defensive responsibility as the opposition poured forward. 5

Nabil Fekir: Introduced early on for the injured Grenier his running from deep seemed Lyon’s only chance of salvaging some degree of respectability whilst he showed plenty of power to shrug off Coquelin on more than one occasion. 7

Clinton Njie: Impressed much more than his much-vaunted strike partner with purposeful running and a constant willingness to take a shot. 6

Alexandre Lacazette: Scarcely looked a striker rated at more than £30 million with just one effort that stung the palms of Martinez to note. 5
