The Blackburn Rovers manager Graeme Souness has unexpectedly revealed that his England midfielder David Dunn is for sale. Dunn made his international debut against Portugal earlier this season but has suffered a dip in form and injury problems. Souness also hinted that outside factors in Dunn's life have influenced his unexpected decision.

"I had a meeting with David Dunn's agent two weeks ago and at that meeting I did express an opinion that if we did get an offer we would listen to what they had to say," Souness said.

"If he left here, we would be reluctant sellers, but at this stage of his career maybe he needs someone else to be talking to him – maybe he needs to hear different things. He's not come anywhere near his standards this season and we have been disappointed with him."

Dunn has embarked on a high-profile relationship with a topless model, and Souness said: "Maybe in David's case there are other things going on in his life that have made him take his eye off the ball. That is not something I'm prepared to accept."

Blackburn are trying to sign Celta Vigo's Spanish international left-back Garcia Juanfran on loan. Souness has asked the Spanish side to let him have the out-of-favour defender for the rest of the season with a view to a £3m permanent deal. Celta have quoted a fee of closer to £4m.

Craig Bellamy has signed a new contract with Newcastle, which will keep him with at the club until 2007. They have finally cut their losses on their £5.8m Spanish defender Elena Marcelino, however, after being able to field him only 22 times in three-and-a-half years. The 31-year-old has had the final five months of his contract paid up.

The West Bromwich Albion manager Gary Megson is trying to sign the Nigerian international Ifeanyi Udeze. The 22-year-old defender, who played against England in the World Cup, will join on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a £1.5m transfer from the Greek club PAOK Salonika.

Tottenham are set to miss out on signing the Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes, who is expected to reject a loan move to White Hart Lane.
