Chelsea are interested in signing Everton central defender John Stones who has greatly impressed Jose Mourinho, reports suggest.

The England Under-21 international, who has joined Gareth Southgate's side at the European Championship in the Czech Republic, is being considered by the Blues who had a bid for Raphael Varane turned down by Real Madrid.

The 21-year-old is highly regarded by the champions as he is considered as one of the most highly rated defenders in the league and could also help them meet the required Premier League quota of home-grown players.

Nevertheless, the Toffees' manager Roberto Martinez will try to do everything he can to keep Stones at Goodison Park.

The Spaniard is looking to strengthen the team by acquiring Crystal Palace centre-back Scott Dann and Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu, who spent a season on loan with Everton.

Stones has amassed 44 appearances with the Tofees and has also attracted the attention of Manchester United.
