Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is planning to launch a bid to sign Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid in a £45m deal according to various reports.

After missing out on the Brazilian playmaker Kaka to Real Madrid, Chelsea are desperately seeking to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

The 21-year-old Argentina international helped Atletico secure Champions League qualification with 17 goals in La Liga last season, which has caused his value to rocket.

If Chelsea were to secure the deal it would smash the record British transfer fee of £34m paid by Manchester City for Robinho.

Reports suggest Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has already met with officials from Atletico to push the deal through.

The 5ft 7in striker has been dubbed the 'new Maradona' and is incidentally engaged to the daughter of the Argentina legend.
