Chelsea midfielder Oscar has denied that he was involved in a training-ground bust-up with tem-mate Diego Costa on Thursday.

Reports emerged from the club’s Cobham base that the two players had to be pulled apart following a “robust” challenge by the Brazilian midfielder, although the pair stopped short of coming to blows.

Oscar, however, wrote on Twitter that he would “never fight” one of his team-mates and reiterated that the Spain international was “one of his best friends”.

The English-langauge tweet has now been deleted. A denial in Portuguese is still live on his account.

Chelsea refused to comment on the incident yesterday but it is believed that Guus Hiddink will comment on the matter during a press conference on Friday.

The alleged incident has caused the team spirit at Stamford Bridge to be scrutinised further, following this season’s fractious defence of their Premier League crown.

Speculation abounded earlier in the campaign, following suggestions that one player would “rather lose than win” under former manager Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese coach was sacked last month while the defending champions sat one point above the relegation zone and, since his dismissal, factions of the Chelsea support have accused the club’s players of purposely playing badly in order to hasten his exit.

Chelsea face League One club Scunthorpe at home in the FA Cup third round this weekend.
