The origins of the tradition may be rude, but the act of throwing celery can be incredibly funny - especially on live television.

With Sky Sports News no longer reporting from outside football grounds on transfer deadline day, thus robbing fans of the joy of shoving a sex toy in a presenter's ear, Chelsea fans took the opportunity to pelt Sky News' Enda Brady with celery as he reported on the team's parade through West London after winning the Premier League.

Brady took it all in good jest, saying, "Loads of celery live on Sky News. Love it, love it, love it! It helps that I'm a Liverpool fan."

The act of throwing celery emanates from a rather rude chant, with the vegetable now used as an act of celebration by the Blues faithful. However, for such an innocent vegetable, the celery can cause trouble: five supporters were arrested after throwing sticks of celery at Villa Park in 2002.

Back in 2007, Chelsea issued a statement that anyone caught bringing celery to Stamford Bridge or anyone caught throwing the vegetable would be banned from the club.

"The throwing of anything at a football match, including celery, is a criminal offence for which you can be arrested and end up with a criminal record," read the club statement. "In future, if anyone is found attempting to bring celery into Stamford Bridge they could be refused entry and anyone caught throwing celery will face a ban."

Jose Mourinho's squad lifted the Premier League trophy on Sunday after the home win against Sunderland, after securing the title three weeks ago.

Four trophies will be on display for fans along the west London route, with the Academy joining the first-team squad on the route. The Premier League trophy and the League Cup will be on display as well as the FA Youth Cup and Uefa Youth League trophies.
