It is one of the stand-out fixtures in the Premier League calendar but, as newcomer Jurgen Klopp noted in his pre-match press conference, when Chelsea take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, the league’s 15th place team will be hosting its 9th.

These opening few months have been testing for both clubs and proved fatal for Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked from the Anfield hot seat earlier this month.

The same fate may yet meet Jose Mourinho, whose defending champions have looked a shadow of their former selves this term.

Although last weekend’s display at West Ham was hardly the worst of Chelsea’s season so far, the day itself was perhaps the nadir, with their controversial coach being sent to stands as they fell to a 2-1 defeat.

Mourinho will be hoping to turn things around on Saturday by halting the modest but marked improvement that Liverpool have made under Klopp.

With difficulties at Anfield and Stamford Bridge, it is hard to pick an in-form starting eleven, even with players from both squads. Nevertheless, we’ve had a go.

Which players who are available this weekend, on current form, make it into our combined XI?

Do you agree? Probably not. Let us know who you'd pick in the comments...
