Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of Manchester United’s trip to Chelsea as Jose Mourinho makes one change to the side that drew 0-0 with Liverpool on Monday.

Jesse Lingard, who scored in the midweek win over Fenerbahce, replaces Ashley Young in the starting line-up, while Paul Pogba is named in the number 10 position ahead of the central midfield pairing of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini.

Luke Shaw returns to the bench after starting in the Europa League as Mourinho decides to stick with Daley Blind on his return to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte has named an unchanged side from the one he chose to beat Leicester 3-0 last time out.

Willian returns from compassionate leave but cannot wrestle his place back from Pedro so has to settle for a place amongst the substitutes alongside Oscar, who is back from injury.

John Terry also comes back into the match-day squad after recovering from his foot injury but Conte overlooks his captain in favour of a back three of Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Line ups:

Chelsea: Courtois, Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Cahill, Moses, Kante, Matic, Alonso, Pedro, Diego Costa, Hazard.

Substitutes: Begovic, Aina, Terry, Chalobah, Oscar, Willian, Batshuayi.

Manchester United: De Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Smalling, Blind, Herrera, Fellaini, Lingard, Pogba, Rashford, Ibrahimovic.

Substitutes: Romero, Rojo, Darmian, Carrick, Young, Mata, Martial.
