Christian Eriksen reveals his superstitious belief that moving out of his hotel could hamper Tottenham form

Spurs midfielder has settled in well at White Hart Lane and has claimed he may postpone his house-hunting efforts if it means the club can continue their good start

Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen has revealed his superstitious nature by claiming he does not want to move out of his London hotel in case it hampers Spurs’ excellent start to the season.

Andre Villas-Boas’ side sit third in the table behind leaders Liverpool and north London rivals Arsenal, with their new-look squad giving the side three wins out of four in the Premier League.

Eriksen starred in their 2-0 victory over Norwich last weekend, and he has so far shone the brightest of Spurs’ seven new acquisitions this summer.

The 21-year-old featured in the build-up to both of their goals against the Canaries – which were both scored by Gylfi Sigurdsson – before opening his own account for Spurs in the 3-0 Europa League victory over Tromso on Thursday.

Due to the international break following the closure of the summer transfer window, Eriksen has been too busy to settle into a new home having been involved for Denmark in their World Cup qualifying campaign, but he has admitted he may postpone his house-hunting efforts if it means Spurs continue their impressive start.

"It has been a good first week. I am still living in a hotel so I maybe I should stay in the hotel!" Eriksen told Spurs TV Online.

"I am really excited to be here. It's a nice place and all my team-mates are nice and I'm really happy about my start.

"Scoring for Spurs is something I have dreamed about so it was nice to do it in my second game. I don't often get them on the pitch, just on the training ground."

Eriksen looks set to ply his trade in the No 10 role linking the midfield and attack, spearheaded by Spaniard Roberto Soldado, and he has impressed not only the fans at White Hart Lane, but his team-mates too.

Jermaine Defoe, who netted a brace in the midweek fixture, has likened the Dane to two former Spurs players and admits that he is a naturally-gifted footballer that adds to the strength of the side.

“He reminds me a bit of Rafa (van der Vaart), and of Luka (Modric) a bit as well," said Defoe.

"What a player he is. I think we needed someone like him.

"He is just so calm on the ball. He is a naturally-gifted footballer, and technically he is so good.

"I spoke to him after his debut and he told me he loved the Premier League because he is allowed more time on the ball when the game becomes stretched.

"It seems like he is really looking forward to the season.

"I can imagine there must have been a few good clubs after him, but he has decided to come to a great club and I know that the fans are going to take to him because he is a top player."

Eriksen is expected to start later this afternoon when Spurs travel to Wales to take on newly-promoted Cardiff, and they’ll come up against one of their former defenders in England international Steven Caulker.

"He has high expectations for his career, but at Tottenham you have to compete with three other central defenders who are also of good quality so we decided for that transfer to happen," manager Villas-Boas said.

"Malky Mackay has given him the opportunity to play regular football and he was rewarded with an England call up, which is excellent for him.

"He is a player with immense talent."
