Club guide: Bolton Wanderers
Saturday 14 August 2010
Sack Race: 14-1
M Alonso (Real Madrid, £2m), T Eaves (Oldham, undisclosed), R Blake (Burnley, free), I Klasnic (unattached, free), M Petrov (Man City, free)
total spent: £2m
N Hunt (Bristol City, free), R Vaz Te (released)
total made: £0m
Player to watch
Martin Petrov. Never given as many opportunities as he merited at City, the Bulgarian winger, quick and clever, should prove a useful acquisition.
Lack of goals; the under-rated Matt Taylor was leading League scorer with only eight. Kevin Davies will hope to benefit from service by Petrov.
Owen Coyle’s defection from local rivals Burnley in mid-season proved a sound if hard-hearted professional decision.
Story of the summer
The precarious season-long dalliance with relegation last season left Trotters fans hoping for a quiet summer, and that is exactly what they got. Coyle’s hopes of securing Jack Wilshere on another loan came to nothing.
Last season 14th
In danger under Gary Megson, revived by Coyle.
This season 11th
Should be comfortable and can maintain upward push.
